Decorative Baroque style Pendulum Mantel Clock in Polychrome Metal and Bronze, 19th century. Precious clock in the form of a classic vase, in white polychrome metal, imitating marble or ceramic, covered all around with sinuous vegetal forms and beautifully crafted scrolls. It consists of a decorative base in gilded bronze, marked by baroque openwork forms of leaves, scrolls and scrolls, crowned in the central part by a beautiful putti sitting cross-legged playing a trumpet. The concave golden dial is placed in the central part and is protected by a hinged side-opening crystal. It has black lacquered Arabic numerals, and has a decorative center of intertwined vegetal forms. Both the cobalt blue hands in the shape of a fleur-de-lis and the circular bronze molding that surrounds the dial make this piece a very decorative example. The upper part, decorated with gilded bronze vegetal appliqués, is crowned by a beautiful seated putti playing a small harp, in clear harmony with the lower angel. Both are clearly linked to the theme of music, which together with the chime of this fantastic clock, makes it a truly splendid piece. On the back we find a decorative grid of concentric geometric shapes that hides the Paris machinery with hour and half-hour chime. On one of the sides of the machinery is engraved the serial number: 5179. This beautiful and decorative clock is in perfect working condition, being able to enjoy its chimes from the first day.The mantel clock comes from the bracket clock, although this term is a bit confusing, since this type of clocks do not really rest on brackets, but were probably intended to be placed on a table, sideboard or fireplace. The bracket of the early years had the characteristic that it was portable, which largely conditioned its mechanism, and it would not be until 1800 when the pallet escapement was definitely replaced by the lever escapement in the bracket clocks, which allowed the development of decorative clocks like this example that undoubtedly in addition to telling the time, decorated the room. They were commonly called mantel clocks because of the place where they were placed in the house, around which the whole family gathered. The designs would evolve as the styles of the moment developed, being usually very decorative clocks that marked the exclusivity of its owner.Decorative and functional clock with which to see the time in a very special way.Measures: 56 x 33 cm.
