Mantel Clock, ca. 1890.

This fine mantel clock, completely made of bronze and profusely engraved with decorative motives, is an antique piece made in France around 1890. This is a very special article because of the quality of the engraving work, carefully performed. Balanced and stylized, this clock is also in excellent condition and the movement has been revised and adjusted so it works perfectly. In this way, as well as being a striking decorative piece the clock is still playing its role as when it was originally manufactured, more than one hundred years ago.Crowning the top we can see a delicate detail in the shape of a spherical vase embellished with volutes and garlands, and that is connected to the clocks box by a slim base. Under the clocks face, round and noble, an architectural-inspired shrine with four cylindrical columns and semi-vault is flanked by two symmetrical figureheads, two female figures in profile who look outward with a high hand as it they were scanning the horizon. Both figures are depicted just to the hip, and instead of legs they are supported by stylized volutes that remind us of a sirens tail. Under the mentioned shrine, two charming reclining Cupids are holding a shield with some kind of embossed letter.The clock stands on a baroque base, with four legs and with a lot of volutes engraved in the bronze. The overall is highly beautiful and decorative and so is the clocks elegant face, white and with fine black Roman numbers. The whole piece is in perfect condition, with no signs of worn or missing parts. At the rear, a small round door can be opened to let us reach the movement with its different gears and the original bell in perfect working order.This spectacular mantel clock is surely a beauty that matches with its ancient age.
