Beautiful antique Bracket-Style mantel clock made in Germany in 1911 by the famous clockmaker brand Junghans. The clock reproduces a classic English design and has Westminster chimes that strike the hours, halves and quarters. It was probably made for the English market by the German clockmaker. The clocks movement has been carefully overhauled and tuned so today it works perfectly and creates a lovely sound. The name bracket applies to a type of antique mantel clocks made in the 17th and the 18th centuries; the first designs had hanging weighs that made it necessary to hang them from wall-mounted brackets (hence their name). The clocks box is made of solid walnut wood and shows off an elegant and simple design with fine art-deco style details carved by hand around the face. The face is made of silvery metal and occupies practically the entire front side of the clock. It is protected by the original glass pane and is decorated with ormolu details. It has black Arab numbers and straight metal hands. At the back of the box there is a small door that makes it possible to reach the clocks movement. The movement bears the engraved Junghans logo over the inscription B11 (related to the year of making, 1911). For its classic elegance and great working order, this lovely antique Bracket-style mantel clock is a charming piece worthy to shine in a stylish living room or in a classy study. The company began to produce wristwatches in 1927. Beginning in the 1950s, the Bauhaus designer Max Bill created clocks and watches for Junghans and the relationship lasted many years. A remarkable example of his work is a wall clock he designed in 1956/57 that is in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art (New York). In 1962 Bill also created mechanical wristwatches for Junghans impressive timepieces, not only for their aesthetic design, but also their precision. In the late 1980s, Junghans introduced the first radio-controlled table clock on the world market. In 1990 the first radio-controlled wristwatch, called the MEGA 1, followed. In 1995 Junghans presented a solar powered watch with ceramic housing. Together with the Japanese clock maker Seiko, Junghans developed a globally oriented wristwatch that automatically sets the local time in respective time zones.
