Gorgeous antique Meissen-style porcelain mantel clock and candelabra set dated in the early 20th century (circa 1900). The set is very well preserved in spite of being such an ancient and fragile item. The clock and the candelabra have survived to our days in good condition; there are some small restorations and flaws but they are scarcely visible and do not interfere with the beautiful design. The set is made of high-quality porcelain; this fact, together with the impressive polychrome work performed by the artist who decorated the pieces, gives rise to a great decorative and beautiful item. The clock mounts a Paris movement that chimes the hours. The movement has been thoroughly cleaned and fine-tuned so today it shows a perfect working order. Both the clock and the candelabra shine for the detailed porcelain-modeling work; each piece is decorated with delightful figures, garlands, small details, flowers and volutes in a real display of virtuosity. The decoration shows a group of young people, men and women, taking part in gallant and pastoral scenes. At the base of the clock there are three characters, two women and a man. The women are picking flowers and the young man is playing a flute. Sitting on the top of the clock, another male figure is making a flowery garland. The candelabra are decorated with couples; each boy holds a cup and offers it to the girl. The figures, flowers and garlands are painted by hand in full color; they painting shows off a remarkable attention to detail that can be appreciated in the petals of the flowers, the faces and the clothes. Last but not least, the clocks dial is white and is decorated with delicate hand-painted flowery garlands. The filigree hands are made of golden metal. For its delicate quality and great artisanal work, this impressive Meissen-style porcelain mantel clock and candelabra set will stand out on the most stylish mantelpiece or sideboard.
