Antique solid-wooden mantel clock made in France in the early 20th century (circa 1900). The clock stands out for its elegant design, sober and attractive, and for its good working order. The movement has been fully checked and tuned in order to guarantee a great performance. It chimes the hours and the halves and presents a particular feature: it does not have a pendulum but a wheel, just like pocket watches. The clocks box is made of solid mahogany wood and boasts a symmetrical waved design quite popular in the turn-of-the-century period. The base is rectangular and long, with four small circular legs and several superposing moldings. The box stands directly on it; its shape reminds us of Napoleon-style hats and this is why these clocks are sometimes called Napoleon-hat clocks. The dark red color of the mahogany wood adds a beautiful touch to the design and so does the delicate hand-carved vegetal-inspired detail located under the dial. The wood is protected by a hand-made French-polish finish that provides it with a fine patina. The white-enameled metal dial is circular in shape and is framed by a brass ring connected to the glass door through a hinge. It bears printed black Roman numbers and straight hands. At the back of the box there is a small circular brass doors with a series of holes that make up a trellis. The trellis is covered by a salmon-colored silk piece. Behind the door rests the brass wheel-operated movement, in perfect condition and working order. Every lover of classic clocks will find a real treasure in this stylish turn-of-the-century model which will fill any space with its gorgeous sound. Measurements: Width: 17.1 in / 43.5 cm.
