Gorgeous antique polished-bronze mantel clock with porcelain dial and handles hanging from bronze lion heads. The clock comes from France and is dated in the late 19th or early 20th century (circa 1900). It is an appealing and very decorative piece, and is also an amazing antique in very good condition. The bronze box has been thoroughly restored and looks great. The movement chimes the hours and the halves and has also been carefully overhauled; today it works perfectly. The architectonic-style box is profusely decorated with embossed motives including volutes and masks. It is shaped as a small temple standing on a rectangular base with claw feet. At the front of the base there is a remarkable mask depicting a roaring lion, which stands out over the rest of the decoration. The dial is located in the center of the box among a lot of volutes, fringes and curved shapes which make up a delicate bronze fretwork. It is made of white porcelain with black Roman numerals, fassonzeiger black hands and a central circular golden detail. It is wonderfully preserved and shows no cracks or worn parts. Over the dial there is a lovely bronze mask depicting the face of a young man in the center of a shield. On both sides of the box, two imposing lion heads hold the bronze handles in their mouths. Crowning this fine design there is an airy vase flanked by two symmetrical and curvy bronze elements. At the back of the box, a small door makes it possible to reach the inner movement. Engraved in its metal body we can see the number 4330. With a magnificent presence and a very good working order, this antique polished-bronze mantel clock will display all its decorative power in a stylish and charismatic home.
