Antique ormolu mantel clock with a sculpture depicting The Troubadour, made in France between 1850 and 1870. The clock is in great condition and works perfectly. It mounts Paris movement with thread-suspended pendulum, very well preserved too. The case shows off a fully neoclassic-style design with a romantic-looking sculpture, performed in detail and depicting a musician dressed in middle-age style. The man is playing a tune called Du Troubadour, printed on a score in front of him. The clocks case is rectangular in shape and shows off quite sober straight lines. It stands on five small legs and is composed of an ample base and a central square body shaped like a pedestal, which contains the dial. The base is decorated with ormolu details depicting Pompeian-style motifs with flower garlands, lyres and adorned vases. The dial is made of white-enameled metal with black roman Numerals and metal hands. At the bottom it bears the printed manufacturers name and address, Lopin Palais Royal Nº 143. On top of the central pedestal we can see a small ormolu sculpture depicting a score on a stand. Both objects are amazingly made and show off an outstanding attention to detail. To the left we can see the figure of the musician, the main character of the sculptural work. To the right of the pedestal there is a finely-molded lute with tiny delicate strings. This instrument stands on a small stool and is supported by the pedestals wall, completing a fine allegory of music Charming and stylish, this gorgeous antique ormolu mantel clock is the perfect piece to provide any special place with personality.
