Antique hand-carved oak wooden mantel clock made in France circa 1870 and in strikingly good condition. The clock, a very impressive and rare piece, has been carefully restored so today shows off a gorgeous aesthetic and guarantees a perfect working order. The box is made of solid oak wood, with a lovely dark golden-brown color and a fine French-polish finish that enhances its great looks. The clocks movement chimes the hours and the halves and has been carefully cleaned and fine-tuned. Combined with the beautiful box, this feature turns the clock into a real collectors piece. The wooden box has an ample rectangular base decorated with several moldings. The bottom one shows a classic carving with waves and floral motifs; two more moldings stand on it. The middle one has not been carved, and the top one bears a border with symmetrical designs. Over the base stands the box itself with a circular dial under which a gorgeous flowery garland hangs. This garland shows off an amazing carving work. The dial is also made of wood; it is framed by a hand-carved circular border and has enameled-metal white Roman numerals on a blue background. The numerals remain in perfect condition and stand out on the sober wooden surface. The clocks hands are made of golden metal. The top part of the clock is semicircular in shape and has a central hand-carved motif depicting a felines head. On both sides of the semicircular piece there are two delicate symmetrical crowning details made of turned and carved wood. The boxs sides are decorated with delicately-carved floral motifs. Last but not least, the clocks movement bears an engraved inscription with the manufacturers name and city, CH. JOUFFROY PARIS. This antique hand-carved oak wooden mantel clock will stand out among any other details on a stately mantelpiece or a noble sideboard. Measurements: Width: 16.4 in / 41 cm. Height: 21 in / 52.5 cm.
