Antique French portico mantel clock by Berket a Paris, coming from France and made circa 1900. The clock is made of turned and ebony-like finished solid wood, with ormolu details and silver metal dial. The faux-ebony finish and the gold-mercury plating of the bronze details are original from the period and have not been restored, showing off an impressive condition if we consider that the clock is more than one century old. The woods finish, which boasts a fine deep black color, does not show scratches or dents and looks shiny and even. As well as boasting a magnificent look, the clock shows an excellent condition and chimes the hours and the halves. The design is composed of square-shaped base and lintel; the base stands on four small circular legs and the lintel is adorned with a decorative cantilever. Between the two parts there are four cylindrical columns, with a remarkable entasis (a slight widening at the bottom of the column) which creates a more stylized and balanced visual effect. The columns are adorned with ormolu bases and capitals; these details are part of the outstanding decoration of the clock which includes the vegetal motifs at the base and the lintel, the dials frame and the gorgeous pendulum bob. The dial is made of silvery metal and bears black Roman numerals, with Breguet metal hands. The ormolu detail that frames the dial shows off a beautiful embossed Pompeiian-style decoration composed of a fauns face at the top, two symmetrical dragons at the bottom and a series of flowers and cornucopias. As for the pendulum, the bob bears a fine embossed decoration matching the rest of the ormolu details, with two symmetrical sea serpents connecting it to the arm. This gorgeous antique French portico mantel clock Berket a Paris will surely shine in a stylish dining room, being the center of attention for its outstanding design and excellent working order.
