Antique and gorgeous carriage clock or officers clock, made in France circa 100 and in outstanding condition. The clock works really fine and comes with original double-function key once wound, the movement can work for more than one week. These clocks were developed in France in the 19th century, the first one being designed in 1812 by Abraham-Louis Breguet for Emperor Napoleon. They were called carriage clocks because they were commonly used in carriages and stagecoaches. In order to become more stable, these clocks mount platform-escapement movements instead of pendulums. They are smaller and lighter than bracket clocks, and had top handles to carry them easily. They are also known as officers clocks, as they were a traditional gift given by employers to their retiring employees. The model which we can see in the photographs is really beautiful. The case is tall and rectangular in shape, with neoclassical corner pillars and glass side and top panels. Through the top glass we can see the platform escapement. The dial has a white circular band with black Arab numerals and poire-style black hands. The movement can be adjusted with the option Advance/Retard. At the top we can see the abatable handle, which shows the same style and design as the pillars. This antique and gorgeous carriage clock or officers clock is an iconic piece, full of charm and beauty. Dimensions: Case: Width: 3.15 in / 8 cm. Height: 5.12 in / 13 cm. Depth: 2.76 in / 7 cm.
