Clock with Candelabra, ca. 1820.

Impressive bronze set made in France between 1820 and 1830, consisting of a monumental mantelpiece clock and a pair of candelabra. The three pieces are artisanal and they are real works of art made of bronze. The clock is quite big and pyramidal in shape, its body being made up by gilded bronze volutes which intertwine with each other in a highly baroque design. Together with the volutes there are also three charming figures of kids; two of them are on each side of the clocks base while the other one crowns the piece. The clock seats on a gilded bronze pedestal with a red velvet-covered top. The pedestal has been restored and is in very good condition. The clock operates on a supporting thread movement and has been revised so it works perfectly. Though the glass door and the face show slight dents, these details are unimportant if we consider the spectacular design of this set, its ancient age and the quality of the materials it is made of. The Roman numbers are Prussian blue and the needles are quite beautiful; they are made of bronze, in the shape of hollow filigrees. The decoration is very remarkable, with asymmetrical and dynamic volutes which provide the piece with a surprising feeling of movement. The candelabra can hold six candles each, and though they seem twin pieces they are actually different. Following the clocks baroque and overelaborate design, they boast a wonderful decoration with the central body standing out of the rest. In each piece, this part is decorated with a sculpture of a naked child slightly covered by garlands of leaves. The candelabra are decorated with floral motives and volutes which match perfectly the clocks style. The candelabra were electrified at some point and have holes where the cables went. These are made in places where they can hardly be seen and are concealed. This mantelpiece clock and candelabra set will delight the most demanding collector thanks to its great looks, style and impressive presence. Measurements: Clock: 470 mm width x 370 mm height.
