Amazing French green marble mantel clock, made in the 19th century and in excellent working order. The clock has a beautiful bronze figure on top supported by a wooden base. The figure is not the original one and was probably made afterwards (in the 20th century). Even so, its base fits perfectly on top of the clock and surely this sculpture was made especially for the piece. The clock works perfectly and keeps all its original parts, including the key and the pendulum. The figure which crowns the clocks depicts a country young man, probably a shepherd, who is accompanied by a dog. The young man is standing in a gracious pose, dynamic but relaxed, and his face shows a happy expression. He seems to be talking with the dog, which is lifting its head towards its owner. The figure can be removed from its location as is not attached to the clock, though it fits perfectly in its place. The patina boasts a beautiful dark reddish tone, which enhances the beautiful making of the sculpture. The figure stands on a wooden base which fits into the circular rabbet located on top of the clock. The clocks box is made of beautiful green marble with a jade-like color and crossed by nice white and red seams. The clock is in perfect condition and its face shows no dents or hairs. The movement is signed: we can see the serial number (1539) engraved in the metal, and a circular stamp with a five-point star and the inscription AD MOUGIN. The clock works perfectly, like the first day of use, and the green marble box is embellished by several gilded bronze details: a series of volutes adorning the top, the face and the front, and four fine legs on which the clock stands. We are looking at an exceptional piece, highly ornamental and whose ancient age and style turn it into a collectors item. This amazing mantel clock will surely delight the most demanding expert. Measurements: 300 mm width x 650 mm height.
