This beautiful medal is the Order of the Yugoslavia Crown, awarded in the currently non-existing country between 1930 and 1945. It is a very attractive piece that has survived to our days in excellent condition and still preserves the original blue moiré ribbon. The Order was instituted after Yugoslavia appeared as a country, after World War I. The new nation was generated around Serbia and in the beginning it was called the Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. In 1929 Alexander the 1st was proclaimed king and in 1929 he temporarily suspended the Constituton and declared a dictatorship to eradicate the separatist movements. The country changed its name to Yugoslavia and the Order was instituted in 1930 to commemorate this fact. The medal is shaped as a Greek cross with the arms formed by five white-enameled petals each. The center of the cross contains the image of the Yugoslav royal crown framed by a slim golden cord. At the back of the insignia we can see the engraved date 3-X-1929 and the royal monogram A. The cross is attached to the dark blue moiré ribbon by a nice turquoise-enameled ring engraved in the shape of a laurel wreath. This medal is a witness of the convulse events lived by the Balkan region during the 20th century. Its beautiful design and historic relevance turn it into a real museum piece. Measurements: Width: 1.7 in/4.5 cm. Height (with ring): 2.7 in/5.5 cm. Height (without ring): 1.7 in/4.5 cm.
