Outstanding Cross Of Merit in Campaign medal for officers, awarded during the Spanish Civil War, obviously in Spain, and in good condition. This medal is also known as War Cross and is active since 1938, a high military award of Spain to recognize battlefield bravery. The one which we can see in the images is the War Cross for Chiefs, a plate-shaped medal with rusted-silver base. Over the base we can see an ormolu motif with four swords, a laurel wreath and four arms with symbols: a crown, two lions and a castle. The central circle is decorated with navy blue, red and white enamel, with the symbols of León and Castile and the golden inscription AL MÉRITO EN CAMPAÑA (for Campaign Merit). The top arm has a small rectangle-shaped metal plate, designed to bear the engraved concession date. For its great beauty and historic relevance, this Cross Of Merit in Campaign medal for officers of the Spanish Civil War deserves a very special place in the best collection.
