This precision scale is a very interesting piece because of its decorative power and its ancient age. It has also survived to our days in great condition and perfect working order. The scale was manufactured in the USA in the early 1920s so it is almost one century old. Nevertheless, it has not lost its weighing capacity that reaches 120 grams. Its precision reveals that this scale was very probably designed to pharmacy use. The scale is connected to a mechanism hidden into a wide wooden box, and the plates are protected by a glass and wooden hood attached to the box with solid hinges. Most of this scales pieces are in good condition and they are all completely original. The box is made of mahogany wood and so is the hoods structure. The plates are located over a glass panel that closes the box at its top and lets the user see the inner graduated scale. The box is painted black inside, probably to make a stronger contrast with the white scale so it can be easily read. The glass panel has a crack, but it's firm and doesn't need to be changed. At the boxs front, a screwed metal plate provides us with a series of data about this device. We can read the manufacturers name, THE TORSION BALANCE Co. NEW YORK; the styles number, 262; the serial number, B76321; the scales capacity, 120 G; and the Class, A. If we turn the scale upside down, inside the box we will see a paper label with the inscription Torsion Balance Reg. U.S. Pat. Off Trade Mark Reg. In Canada printed on it.The weighing system this instrument uses is similar to those of Roman scales. To weigh a product or object, the user will put it on the plate and then move the Y-shaped piece that indicates the weigh in the scale. The piece can be moved with the metal rod located at the left side of the box. When the plates are balanced we will discover the products weight. The decorative beauty and good condition of this piece turn it into a great item worthy of the best collection of pharmacy antiques.Measurements: Width: 310 mm/12.2 in.
