This curious article is a weight set for precision scale made in Rotterdam (Netherlands) in the 1930s. The set is complete and no piece is missing: they are all original too. The item is composed of a series of weights for the entire grams and a group of small metal plates for the tenths and hundredths of a gram. All the pieces are stored in a nice rectangular case made of solid mahogany wood, with different compartments to organize them. The gram weights, made of solid wood, fit into their respective circular compartments located at the back of the box. On the other hand, the plates for the tenths and hundredths of a gram are organized in small square boxes protected by a transparent glass lid. Every piece has its corresponding weigh engraved in the metal: integer figures for the grams and numbers with a dot to the left for the percentages. The small plates are accompanied by a golden thong, a tool necessary to manipulate them as they are too small to be caught with the fingers. The solid mahogany case where this weigh set is stored has survived to our days in quite good condition. The wood boasts a lovely golden red tone with the edges in a darker red color. The case keeps the original hinges and also the satin finish that protects the wood. In the box, the front edge bears two engraved inscriptions: to the right we can read the words DECKERS SONS, and to the left, the name ROTTERDAM.Evocative and full of charm, this weight set is the perfect article for a great collection of scientific antiques.
