This curious article is a demountable torso for the study of the inner anatomy of the human being, probably used by medicine students and professors. It is a very interesting piece: it depicts the human anatomy with fidelity and realism and is made with a surprising attention to detail. It dates from 1957 and it completely made of cellulose paste, a fact that turns this torso into a light and easy-to-carry item. The different pieces are painted in full color so the organs can be reproduced with full fidelity. The torso stands on a metal base that provides it with stability and consistence. It is also marked with the serial number 9023. Seen from the back, the torso reproduces a naked mans back with a white loincloth covering his waist. The pieces front, on the other hand, shows the breast and belly opened so we can easily reach the inner organs. The mannequins flesh looks as if it had been cut off, realistically reproduced, and the same can be said about the organs. They are all carefully numbered for an easy identification. Among the different organs we can distinguish the lungs, the lever, the intestines, the heart and other parts of the human body, in this case of a mans body. When we remove the demountable parts of this torso (the lungs front, stomach, lever, heart and intestines) we discover some other organs that were hidden, reproduced with identical fidelity and realism. The piece that depicts the heart can also be divided two so we can study this particular organs anatomy. The bright colors this torso was painted with are quite remarkable: they remain in great condition in spite of the trace of time and the use. Today this torso is still a practical and functional item, perfect for the study of human anatomy. Its striking look and ancient age turn this anatomic torso into a museum piece, bound to decorate a doctors office or to form part of a collection of scientific antiques.
