This rare article is a surgical castration tool, an item to perform operations in the testicles of men and animals. This is an original piece, from the 19th century, a hundred per cent authentic and in very good condition. This tool was used with other instruments such as scalpels and thongs; its duty was to compress the scrotum so the doctor or veterinarian could perform different operations. Not just castration but also other surgical interventions such as eradication of tumors. The article is well preserved: the metal looks shiny and regular and the component parts move fluidly. The tool works with a ratchet system. It is composed of a hollow rectangular stem with a caterpillar metal chain inside. The chain forms a loop at the tools bottom end while at the top it is connected to a piece that can be moved thanks to two levers. The castration tool is easy to use: the levers move the piece that collects the chain, and the loop closes. This loop is designed to compress the scrotum when performing surgical interventions. This article draws powerfully our attention because of its rareness and originality. Its good condition let us check the operation of all the component parts: the mechanism is in perfect working order. It is surely a very special item, worthy of a great collection of antique medical tools. Measurements: Width: 4.7 in/12 cm. Height: 10 in/25 cm.
