This exclusive set of surgical tools is an enormously interesting piece for any self-respected collector. It is a complete set of tools that come in their original wooden case, made in the second half of the 19th century /1870) by the prestigious maker of medical instruments A. Lüer, established in Paris. The tools are made of steel with black wooden handles and they are all signed with the brand name. The case is in excellent condition and preserves the original lock and key in perfect working order. Inside the box we can see a golden and black sticker with the inscription A. LÜER INSTRUMENTS DE CIRUGIE PLACE DE LECOLE DE MEDICINE 19. This detail reveals that the item was made by A. Lüer, a firm founded by Amatus Lüer who in 1834 arrived in Paris from Germany and opened a business to make and sell medical instruments. Later his daughter Jeanne entered the business too, and after marrying Hermann Wülfing, together they developed one of the most important innovations in the history of medical tools: Lüers syringe, a piece made of graduated glass that could be sterilized with the plunger driven directly rather than by screw action. It also included a conical nozzle ground for detachable push-fit needles. That syringe was the direct predecessor of current models. The quality of the tools that we can see in the images corresponds perfectly to the prestige of the Lüer name. The steel looks polished and flawless and the wood is also well preserved. We can see the inscription A. LÜER PARIS in all the tools, engraved in the metal. The utensils are organized in the box and inside the lid, fitted in holes with the shape of each tool. The case is made of solid walnut wood, quite beautiful and with nice dovetail joints at the corners. The wood is protected by a gorgeous French polish finish that provides it with a warm touch. This amazing set of surgical instruments is a real museum piece because of its quality and ancient age. Its owner will feel proud of exhibiting it in the best showcase.
