Fine case designed to store surgical instruments, made of solid walnut wood circa 1850 and in quite good condition. The article has been delicately restored and the wood looks beautiful thanks to the French-polish finish that protects it. The golden brown color of the wood is quite attractive, and together with the wavy veneer creates a very decorative effect. The lid is crowned by a wonderful golden brass handle, shaped like two symmetrical cornucopias and strongly embedded in the center of the piece. The case preserves the original lock, and can be closed with to two metal hooks located at its front side. The key is not the original, but reciently made by a professional locksmith. Inside we can see the shaped compartments bound to store the surgeon instruments, lined with red velvet. The fabric is somewhat worn out because of the trace of time and use, a sign of this pieces ancient age and authenticity.
