Antique set of tools and utensils used to perform ophthalmic surgery operations, made in the early 20th century. The set is completely original from the period and is almost complete, only missing a few pieces. Nevertheless, most of the instruments have survived to our days and remain in good condition though showing some traces of rust, due to the sets ancient age and use. The instruments and the storing case are nostalgic and authentic, preserving the fascinating charm typical of turn-of-the-century medical antiques. The set is composed of several pieces: blepharostats (tools designed to separate the patients eyelids during the operation), fixing tongs, fixing hooks, scissors, needles, spoons, scalpels All of them are designed to perform different precision ophthalmic surgery operations. It is very probably that these tools were thoroughly used when they belonged to a professional, such is its condition. The case where the tools are stored is the original one and remains in good condition. It is made of solid wood and boasts a fine veneer in different shades of brown. The hinges are original and work fine. Inside, the case is covered by red velvet: it is the original lining, in quite good condition in spite of being so old. The lining shows some gap shaped like the tools to keep them in proper order.
