This curious article is a set with tools for trepanations. It was made in Germany in the early 20th century (1900-1910) and remains in excellent condition. The case contains six basic utensils for these chirurgical operations, made of steel and well preserved. The metal looks shiny and even, with scarcely any signs of rust or wear. The tools are fully functional in spite of being more than one hundred years old. The tools are stored in a fine case covered of black faux-leather, in excellent condition too. Both the cases cover and the tools bear the word HAUPTNER engraved in their surface. This name corresponds to H. Hauptner, a company that manufactures chirurgical tools and material founded in Berlin in 1857. It was created by Hans Hauptner and with the trace of time it became quite successful. In 1916 a factory was built in Solingen in order to best meet the market demands. H. Hauptner is still active as a medical and veterinary material manufacturing company, after 150 years of existence. Among the tools that we can see in the images, the trephine stands out: it is the one that looks like a hammer. It is used to drill bones. It comes with two core drills; one of them is mounted in the trephine itself and the other lays by its side. The set also includes other tools designed to break bones and deepen the holes. Inside, the case is covered by a satin and velvet lining in a lovely dark purple color and in amazing condition. This set of trepanation tools is the perfect piece to decorate a professional study or to complete a collection of rare antiques. Measurements: Width: 9.4 in / 24 cm. Depth: 5.5 in / 14 cm.
