Rare cachet pump or nozzle designed to make cachets (pills), for pharmaceutical or medical use and in really good condition. The pump is stored in its original case, also quite well preserved, and comes with a complete nozzle set. This piece dates from the first quarter of the XX Century, circa 1925, and boasts all the charm and the fascination of medical antiques from the early 20th century: it is quite an interesting item for collectors. It is made of silvery metal; its surface looks great and shows no traces of rust, dents or remarkable flaws. Medicinal pills or cachets have been manufactured from thousands of years. The first pills are thought to have been made around 1500 BC; until then, medicines were liquid. Pills were a relevant invention as they make it possible to measure precisely the medicine amount and their intake is much easier for the patient. The pump that we can see in the images is inspired in the one invented by William Brockedon in 1843, a pump that compressed the medicine mixture to create pills. This particular machine is quite simple, sturdy and attractive. The whole set is composed of the pump itself, similar to a piping nozzle, and six nozzles. In order to use it, firs a nozzle must be chosen and screwed to the pumb. After putting the medicine inside, the user will press the plunger to create a cylinder that will be cut afterwards. Depending on the nozzle, pills of different diameters will be created. The storing case is also in good condition; its inner lining is surprisingly well preserved, and is quite remarkable for its lovely bright blue color. Every lover of medical antiques will appreciate the charm and attractive of this cachet or pill pump, authentic and original. Measurements: Width: 8.4 in / 21 cm. Depth: 3.5 in / 9 cm.
