Magnificent Precision Balance manufactured by Sartorius Werke in Göttingen around 1930. It is in good condition both aesthetically and functionally. Balance in silvered metal perfectly protected by the wooden box with four sides of transparent glass, made to measure for the device. As can be seen from the photographs it has a horizontally sliding door on one of the sides that allows quick access to the interior, and another with vertical sliding guillotine, in the back that allows a more direct access to the scale. The scale is basically composed of two plates located on both sides of the central bar, which ends in an upper brass structure, with black and silver accessories. On one of the upper sides there is a series of silver and bronze weights necessary to carry out the measurement. By means of an elaborate system of weights and counterweights it is possible to weigh as accurately as possible for the desired period. By selecting the desired amount on the small indicator wheel, located on one of the sides of this fantastic scale, it will operate its elaborate mechanism to achieve the most correct result possible. The wheel is in perfect condition, with perfectly defined divisions and numbers. If 1 mgrm is selected, it lowers the weight by 1 mgrm. Depending on the weight selected, the device combines the microweights to obtain the required section with the highest precision. This is a completely original piece, as evidenced by the various name plates that are found at different points on the piece. One of the plates, which is a little rusty, indicates the manufacturer Sartorius Werke, the serial number of this particular piece: 104632, as well as where it was manufactured: Germany. Also, on the front of the box we find another identification plate, and another one on the back of the balance, and even one of the upper sides with the description of the laboratory that used this balance: W. Feddeler, in Essen. The scale is in perfect aesthetic and working condition. It is not missing any part and has all the original springs and in good condition, which makes it a splendid piece. It must be taken into account that since the beginning of mankind, man has always looked for a way to measure and weigh the goods, in order to carry out a fair barter as far as the distribution of food is concerned. When we talk about weight, the first thing we think of is a scale. The first things were weighed by means of the Roman balance or the one with equal arms, based on a system of weights, with the problem of these being misplaced. These types of scales are the simplest, based on a system of balance between arms. There is a varied typology of antique scales, although in many cases, due to their incessant use, they do not arrive complete to our hands. As time goes by, and accuracy in terms of weight becomes more and more necessary, more accurate scales are made with all kinds of formats according to the needs, such as this example of incredible precision.Magnificent piece of precision ...
