Smart and elegant Meyer and Meltzer fitted surgical set, a rare Victorian piece which we find complete and in excellent state of conservation. The beautiful rectangular case is made of fine wood, with brass details and working lock. The wooden joints are hand- set made and dovetail, which makes the piece more beautiful and valuable. The lock works perfectly and comes with the nice brass key which opens and closes the box. Inside the case we can see a lift-out wooden tray with brass handles. This tray fits perfectly into the case, over the compartmentalized lower case which shows the surgical set. The set is complete and in good condition, except for some slight pitting to the metal in certain instruments, something that talks about the antiquity and charm of this great set of original instruments made by Mayer & Meltzer. Among the various utensils we can find different tongs and clips, scalpels of different sizes, a nice glass and metal syringe, two towel clips, a cleaner and some accessories for the syringe and even an original bird feather. The handcrafted polish shows the shine and depth typical of this kind of varnish, and is in excellent condition. Some particular details, such as the brass hooks inserted in the wooden sides of the case or the blank brass cartouche in the front and the top, just increase the beauty of this unique collector piece. The surgical instruments show the name of the brand engraved in the metal: all these details show the great value of the object, making it an unique piece that any antiquity lover would be proud to own. Dimensions of the case: 235 cm length x 160 cm high.
