Striking regulation surgery case which was used by the French army. It dates from 1894. It is a wonderful item because of its interest, its ancient age and its excellent condition. The instrumental is complete, with no piece missing, and is kept into its original wooden case. The wood is very well preserved. The case has dovetail joints, attractive and strong, and golden brass reinforcements. The case also keeps the original brass handle and the brass plate embedded in the cover. The plate bears the inscription BOITE Nº 23 (Box Nº 23) and the year 1894. If the case is so beautiful and interesting, we can also say so about its contents. The inside is covered by red velvet and houses a full collection of different surgical instruments to be used in campaign. Scissor-thongs, a saw for bones, sewing needles and other utensils needed for surgical interventions are part of this set, which is in good condition. Some instruments are engraved with the word MATHIEU. The case comes with an old sheet of paper where we can read a description of all the utensils which form part of the instrumental. On top of the sheet, under the word NOMENCLATURE, there is a French text which guarantees that it is the description of the contents of box nº 23. Then there comes a list with all the instruments housed by the case: name, features and quantity. This exceptional campaign set is a unique piece which will surely complete the most impressive collection of medical or military antiques. Case measurements: 350 mm width x 150 mm height (fully open).
