Attractive scale for pharmaceutical use, in very good condition and perfect working order. This piece dates from the 1970s and is highly appealing because of the image that decorates the central pillar. It is a figure made of synthetic resin and metal inside, with a nice bronze finish and depicting Asclepius (Latin Aesculapius), the god of medicine and healing in ancient Greek religion. This figure is holding the rod of Asclepius, a staff with a snake entwined around it which has become the symbol of the medical and pharmaceutical professions. The scale is very well preserved. The central pillar and the figure stand on a milled black marble base, in perfect condition. The figure is also complete, and its bronze paint finish is shiny and clean. The beam is made of blued brass, and its dark finish makes a nice contrast with the shiny look of the pans, made of polished brass and which are as bright as the first day. The beams right arm has an engraved inscription: Max. 1 kg Min 25 g e. The scale is in perfect working order, and so is a functional and decorative item. The image of Asclepius is highly aesthetical and regular, with beautiful proportions, elegant pose and serene face. As it is common in this gods iconography, he has a beard and is dressed with a big plain cloth that hangs from his left shoulder. The god wears sandals and is standing in front of a rock, an element which usually accompanies the figure. The image provides the scale with an elegant touch, turning it into a very special piece which joins aesthetical appealing and functionality. This scale is a beautiful and interesting item, perfect to decorate a vintage chemistry or an elegant and luxurious study. Measurements: 450 mm width x 420 mm height.
