Amazing antique kitchen scale made by the British manufacturer W. & T. Avery Ltd. in the first half of the 20th century. The scale is in striking condition and comes with a complete golden-brass weigh set. It mounts a cast-iron body with a great dark green finish and shiny golden-brass pans. The enameled finish remains in good condition too: the contrast between the dark green surface and the bright golden brass creates a very decorative piece. Between the pans, the scales body bears the manufacturing companys name in embossed lettering, enhanced with golden paint. The weigh set is composed of five delicate and well-preserved pieces with their corresponding weighs engraved in the metal. This stunning antique kitchen scale will shine anywhere for its beauty, good condition and industrial look. Measurements: Width: 13.7 in / 35 cm. Height: 7.4 in / 19 cm.W. & T. Avery Ltd. History W. & T. Avery Ltd. was created in 1818 by William and Thomas Avery, who in 1813 acquired a pre-established business. Along the years the company grew rapidly and in 1885 it already had three factories. In the early 20th century William Hopkins, who then was the companys managing director, decided broaden the renown of the Avery brand and transform the business into a specialist manufacturer of weighing machines. After almost one century of continuous international expansion, in 1979 the firm was taken over by GEC. Keith Hodgkinson, managing director at the time, completed the turn-around from mechanical to electronic weighing. In the following years the business went through different owners until 2008, when it was eventually acquired by Illinois Tool Works, its current owner.
