Antique treen apothecary pill silverer made in the 19th century and in excellent condition. This fascinating piece is made of solid wood, being the material really well preserved. It is an original item, quite rare and very attractive: these silverers are very sought-after for their rareness and authenticity. It is made of boxwood and shows off a fine golden-brown color; at the top of the lid, the wood is somewhat darkened for the constant use. The bowl-and-lid set shows no cracks or broken parts, being complete and in fine condition. Inside we can find some traces of the ancient silver leaf used to cover the pills. These items were used to provide medicinal pills with a sweeter taste and a more attractive look by covering them with silver or golden leaves. Chemists would impregnate the surface with mucilage of acacia and rotate the bowl until the pill was entirely covered of metal. This antique treen apothecary pill silverer is a real collectors piece, fully original from the time and in excellent condition.
