Extraordinary Mathieu surgical set, super complete, made in France circa 1900. The storing case has an embedded handle in the lid, typical of the furniture and items which can be found on boats. It is made of tropical solid wood; these woods are very dense and have a high content in oils, which make them quite resistant against the deformation and wear. The brass handle, the lock and the hinges are in really good condition, just like the wood. This boasts a lovely golden-brown color and dark veneer, enhanced by the fine satin finish which protects it. Inside the case hides an antique and complete surgical set, very well preserved. The instruments fit in gaps shaped like them; these gaps can be seen in the lid and the removable tray. The case bears a fine red velvet inner lining in good condition, with the manufacturers name printed in golden lettering. Under the removable tray we find more tools, stored in two compartments painted in red enamel. The tools are made of stainless steel and mount matt black-painted wooden handles. Except for the scissors, which are modern, all the tools bear the manufacturers mark: MATHIEU PARIS. The set includes eight additional tools marked by THAMM, also antique. The instrument set is composed of different knives, scalpels, spatulas, hooks, a red elastic tourniquet, a saw for amputations, saw blades, pliers and a silvery chain. The tourniquet is stored in the cases lower compartment and is visible through the circular gap of the removable tray. This extraordinary Mathieu surgical set, super complete and in good condition, is a very special item worthy of the best collector. Dimensions: Width: 14.6 in / 37 cm. Depth: 5.63 in / 14.3 cm.
