This curious device is a microscope torch made in France in the early 20th century. It is a very original and attractive item that has survived to our days in quite good condition. Though it has not been tested, all its parts and components are well preserved, including the electrical wires. The torch has no bulb or battery, but both elements can be easily incorporated. Overall, this piece boasts a good condition and working order, being a charming decorative and functional item.The torch has a vertical metal pole, slim and long, that is connected to a mahogany wood base through a brass piece. On this table we can also see the device that acts as a switch: two terminals connected to the torch through their corresponding spiral wires, covered by red and green fabric respectively. There is also a central lever that can be lowered and lifted in order to turn the light on or off. The components are well preserved and work smoothly. Stack to the plank we can also see a label with the name and address of the manufacturer: A. GAIFFE FABRICANT DE INSTTS DE PRECISION 40 Rue St Andre-des-Arts PARIS.If we turn the item upside down, under the wooden plank we will find the engraved serial number 81230. Number 2 is not clear as it is partially hidden by the screw that attaches the torch to the base. There is also a nice engraved monogram with an A inside a circle. At the top of the torch the black piece that connects the headlamp to the pole bears the word PARIS engraved in the metal. Most of the torchs components are made of silvery metal: it is in good condition and shows only slights signs of rust in very concrete parts.This beautiful microscope torch is a very interesting item for any collector or lover of charming vintage articles.
