This beautiful item from the early 20th century is a Henry Crouch microscope manufactured in London circa 1910. It is an original design that preserves all its component parts in excellent condition. The microscope comes in its original solid wooden case and comes with some accessories for its manipulation. In spite of being around one hundred years old, this piece is in very good condition and can be used.The microscope stands on a black-enameled cast-iron foot, whose design with curved front is known as English foot or Crouch foot. This piece bears the engraved manufactured name as well as the city and the serial number: HENRY CROUCH LONDON 9232. Henry Crouch (1811-1881) was a famous English microscope maker who attended the Centennial Exposition that was held in Philadelphia, USA in 1876. His presence in the exposition was crucial for his business: he made such an impressive exhibition of his products that from then on he started to commercialize them in the USA. He became one of the most successful British microscope makers in the States. One of the lenses that the two-piece revolving nosepiece mounts bears the following engraved inscription: HENRY CROUCH LONDON Nº 45081. The manufacturers name is also engraved in the brass sleeves designed to protect the lenses, together with the words S. MAW, SON & THOMPSON AGENTS that can also be found in the sample plate. As stated before, the microscope comes in a nice solid mahogany wooden box that also contains two boxes with sliding lids designed to store the lenses and eyepieces, and a grooved wooden piece for the samples. There is a white paper package with the handwritten inscription 1 DOZEN SLIDES. Both beautiful and complete, this Antique microscope is a fully functional collectors piece.
