This fine microscope, a high-quality and nicely designed piece, is scientific surveying instrument made in Germany in 1929. The manufacturers name is engraved in different parts: it is the name of Ernst Leitz, Wetlzar. The microscope is very well preserved: the black enamel that covers the bird-claw foot is in excellent condition and the brass components are also fine. These components keep the original transparent lacquer finish that protects the delicate metal. Furthermore, the microscope comes in its original solid wooden case with the original key.As stated before, the microscopes turret bears the engraved inscription ERNST LEITZ WETZLAR together with the serial number Nº 26127. The manufacturers name can also be found in the objectives, the eyepiece and the devices foot, in the point where this piece supports the turret. Ernst Leitzs name is associated with the Optical Institute of Wetlzar, founded by Karl Kellner in 1849. Leitz entered the firm as an engineer in 1865 and in four years he took over the company, changing the original market name by his own. The companys prestige grew rapidly and became a worldwide leader in the field of optic instruments and components manufacture. Leitz died in 1920 but the company kept on producing optic material under his sons command. The firm is currently divided in four separate branches. The microscope we can see in these images is in good working order and keeps all the original component parts. It has a two-lens revolving nosepiece and comes with spare lenses, all of them signed by Leitz. The case where the instrument can be stored is made of light-colored solid wood, attractive and in good condition. It has fine dovetail joints and keeps the original silvery metal handle and also the operating lock and key. Inside we can see a wooden stand designed to store the lenses and eyepieces in their corresponding sleeves, and also a paper label with the manufacturers name and a handwritten date: 5/12/1929. Sober and functional, this magnificent Leitz microscope is a first-class instrument that any lover or vintage technology will love to own. Measurements: Width: 6.2 in/16 cm. Height: 7 in/18 cm.
