Magnificent Leitz Microscope in Excellent Condition. Germany, 1920

Impressive antique microscope in its original case and with a complete set of accessories for its manipulation. It is an E. Leitz Wetlzar microscope, made in Germany in 1920 and in great condition. The instrument works perfectly and can be used to view samples. It mounts a three-lens revolving nosepiece and a black-enameled bird-claw foot, and is signed in the turret and the lenses. It preserves all its original component parts, from the oscillating mirror to the adjustment screws. The turret bears the engraved inscription E. Leitz Wetzlar and the serial number Nº 183684. The name corresponds to Ernst Leitz, Wetlzar. Ernst Leitz was a German engineer that in 1849 took control of the Optical Institute of Wetlzar, Germany, and turned it into one of the most powerful optical manufacturers in the world. The company was renowned for its excellent microscopes and optical components, but maybe their most famous products were the Leica cameras (abbreviation of Leitz Camera) that were used by some of the most prestigious photographers and photojournalists of the 20th century. This microscope bears the manufacturers name in the lenses, the micrometer and the paper sheet inside the case. The microscopes cast-iron foot preserves the original black-enameled finish in excellent condition, shiny and even. The brass components look good too, with the original transparent lacquer protecting the metal surface. The instrument comes in its original solid wooden case, with the lock and the key in working order. Inside it stores two wooden stands for the lenses and eyepieces (in their respective sleeves) and also a box with sliding lid that contains the filters and the micrometer. The paper sheet bears the serial number and manufacturing date written by hand in black ink.
