This beautiful antique microscope is a very special piece because of its nice design and ancient age. The instrument was manufactured in London circa 1910 by the renowned optic material manufacturer R & J Beck. It is in excellent condition, having been restored in order to show a high-end look. The microscope also works fine and keeps all its original component parts. It comes in its original case, a lovely solid wood box with a greatly preserved leather handle. If we look at the microscope closely, we will see an inscription engraved in one side that reads: Standard London Model R & J BECK Ltd. LONDON PATENT Nº 22528.The mentioned companys name corresponds to an optic material manufacturing firm founded in London in 1834. In the early days the company was started by Richard and Joseph Beck in partnership with a manufacturer called James Smith: their first market name was Smith, Beck & Beck. After Smiths retirement, the company was renamed R & J Beck, as we can read in this microscope. The firm became highly prestigious thanks to their high-quality microscopes, telescopes and cameras. This striking scientific surveying instrument mounts a three-lens revolving nosepiece the three lenses bear the magnification number and brand engraved in the metal, being in perfect working order. Inside the protecting case there is a small wooden stand that supports the eyepieces. The case itself is a beautiful solid oak wooden box, extremely remarkable because of the woods deep veneer that stands out on a light golden background. The wood is very well preserved and so is the protecting finish. Because of its ancient age and decorative power, this R & J Beck microscope is a beautiful and original item.
