This striking instrument is a German microscope made by Otto Seibert Wetzlar in the early 20th century (circa 1910). It is a very remarkable piece for its big size and prestance: it mounts four-lens revolving nosepiece, different adjusting screws and black-enameled cast-iron foot. The microscope is in optimal condition, with the brass and silvery metal components very well preserved. The black lacquered finish is also in good condition with only slight signs of wears in the arms corner. This item comes in its original solid wooden case, also well preserved and containing different accessories. At the top of the foot we can see a small metal plate screwed to the iron with the engraved manufacturers name and the microscopes serial number: Otto Seibert Wetzlar 1743. Otto Seibert was the descendant of Wilhelm and Heinrich Seibert, two brothers that founded a company to manufacture optic material in Berlin in 1867. With the trace of time business grew and its owners decided to move to Wetzlar. In 1917 the firm started to collaborate with E. Leitz; after Otto Seibert died, Leitz eventually took control of the business. Inside the case we can see a series of wooden stand and boxes to organize the different accessories. There is a small wooden box with glass filters and sample plates, and two stands supporting sleeves for the eyepieces and the lenses. Also, nailed to the door we can see a leaflet with information about the lenses and eyepieces. The case is beautiful: it is made of light golden wood with dovetail joints in the corners. Its imposing look and excellent working order turn this antique microscope into an essential piece for a demanding collector. Measurements: Width: 18 cm. Height: 36 cm.
