Antique compound microscope in great condition and more than one hundred years old. This scientific surveying device was made in London, England in 1870. It has survived to our days quite well preserved and is signed by the manufacturer: J. Newton & Son. The microscope comes in its original solid wooden case and is accompanied by different original accessories. It works perfectly and can be used to watch samples. All its screws and gears move fluidly and precisely. It also includes a micrometrical-adjustment device to move the sample plates to the millimeter without touching them. At the microscopes foot we can see the manufacturer companys name, J. Newton & Son, engraved by hand in an elegant cursive lettering. The address where the business was located is also present: 3 Fleet St. London. The company was founded in the early 18th century though the exact date is unknown. Its founders seem to be related to Isaac Newton, the famous scientist. It is considered the oldest scientific instrument business in the world. In 1850 the partners were W. E. and F. Newton; later, Frederick Newtons son would enter the firm too. In the 1950 the companys name changed to Newton Photographic Services Ltd. This stunning microscope is fully made of golden brass the metal is quite good condition and preserves the original transparent lacquered finish. It stands on a mahogany wooden base to which the devices foot is screwed. The storing case is a beautiful solid mahogany box in good condition and with the original brass hinges.
