This striking instrument is a monocular microscope, made in England in the late 19th century (1870) and in excellent working order. The microscope is in good condition and preserves the original transparent lacquer that protects the brass surface. It stands on a solid mahogany piece, beautifully varnished and well preserved. This fine device keeps all its original component parts, including the oscillating mirror and the setting screws. It comes in its mahogany wooden case, wonderfully preserved too. The lock is the original one but it is not in working order. The microscope mounts an only lens with a mobile magnifying glass on top that lets the user watch the samples and check their correct placement easily. The microscopes foot is stable and solid, composed of two front legs and a rear horseshoe-shaped piece. As stated before, the instrument stands on a mahogany wooden plank that fits perfectly inside the case. This means that the microscope can be removed and stored easily and with no difficulties at all. Both the magnifying glass and the mirror can be folded so they stick to the microscope and do not hinder the storage. The box where the microscope is stored and protected is made of solid mahogany wood and remains in excellent condition. The wood is covered by a delicate French-polish finish that enhances its beauty and provides it with a warm glow. At the top the case preserves the original brass handle in great condition. Inside the case, at the top left corner there is a small wooden drawer designed to contain glass sample plates. Under the drawer we find a wooden piece with a brass sleeve (for the lens) and a spare eyepiece. This golden brass microscope is a very attractive piece with a nostalgic design. It will fill any room with all the beauty of antique instruments. Measurements: Width: 5.5 in / 14 cm. Height: 11.02 in / 28 cm.
