The microscope can be rotated on its axis, so that it can be oriented in different positions, it is well preserved and it works fine; it comes in its original solid wooden case too. This case is also wonderfully preserved and together with the microscope makes up a high-quality set. The device is fully made of golden brass and preserves the original transparent lacquer that protects the metal. All the microscopes pieces and component parts are original and remain in general good condition. The instruments turret bears an engraved inscription in an elegant cursive lettering: R. Wasserlein Berlin. This name corresponds to Rudolf Wasserlein, a man who in the 1850s ruled an atelier to manufacture high-quality microscopes together with Louis Beneche. The shop was located in Berlin and had been founded by Beneches father in the 1920s. In 1860, Wasserlein left his partner and started his own business in Berlin. It was in those times when the fine microscope that we can see in the photographs was made. The microscope is part of a kit that includes several spare lenses and eyepieces. These accessories are orderly disposed inside the case, in their corresponding compartments. The case is made of mahogany wood and is in strikingly good condition it beast a French-polish finish that enhances the bright golden reddish color of the wood. It also preserves the original handle, hinges and shutting hooks, being all these pieces made of polished brass and quite well preserved.
