This sober monocular microscope, made of golden brass and in really good condition, was made in England in 1885 by Watson & Sons, London. The instrument is well preserved and is in working order: it can be used to watch samples just as when it was made. It comes in its original solid mahogany wooden case, also in good condition and perfect to store and protect the microscope and its accessories. The item preserves all its original component parts in good working order and fluid operation. The microscope has a horseshoe-shaped foot. At the back of this piece we can see a hand-engraved inscription: Watson & Sons 313 High Holborn London. These words indicate that the instrument was made by the firm founded by William Watson in 1837 under the name Wm. Watson Company. This firm was located in London and manufactured lanterns, slides and accesories. In 1868 the company changed its name for W. Watson & Son and moved to 3133 High Holborn, London. In the late 1870s they started manufacturing photographic equipment and in 1883 the firm got its definite name, Watson & Sons. In 1948 the business closed its doors. Inside the case we can see a series of wooden compartments designed to store the eyepieces and the lenses, the latter in their respective brass sleeves. The case itself is a gorgeous piece made with solid mahogany wooden planks in amazing condition. It preserves the original lock and key in working order, and the hinges that connect the door and the box. The top leather handle is missing, but nonetheless the case is exceptionally beautiful. As sober as antique, this golden brass microscope is an exclusive piece for its beauty and functionality. Measurements: 5.9 in / 15 cm. Height: 15.35 in /39 cm
