Elegant antique monocular microscope with a functional and solid design and more than one hundred years old. This device was made in France in the late 19th century (circa 1880) by Hartnack & Prazmowski, being in good condition and great working order. It comes in its original solid wooden case with a compartment for the glass plates and a stand for the eyepieces. The microscope is fully made of golden brass the metal preserves the original transparent lacquer that protects its surface. It looks really good and shiny.The turret bears the inscription E. Hart. & A. Praz. Prazmowski Sucr. Rue Bonaparte 1 Paris engraved in a stylish cursive lettering. The name of the manufacturing company was actually E. Hartnack & A. Prazmowski, the successor of the original company which was founded in Paris by Edmund Hartnack in 1860. In 1870 business was taken over by Adam Prazmowski who came from working at the Warsaw Observatory; the abbreviation Sucrs. stands for successor. In the late 19th century the company was acquired by the French optical manufactured Nachet.The case designed to store the microscope and the accessories is made of solid mahogany wood. It has fine dovetail joints at the corners and is in quite good condition. The leather carrying handle is the original one. Inside, as well as the microscope we can see a wooden stand with two eyepieces and a small compartment containing some accessories: thongs, sample plates and a small box with glass filters. Inside, the cover is lined with padded purple satin in really good condition.As antique as functional, this amazing monocular microscope is bound to become part of a good collection of old-time instruments.
