Sober antique microscope made in the late 19th century (1890) by Otto Himmler, in its original case and in very good condition. The microscope has a black-lacquered cast-iron horseshoe foot and its top part is composed of golden brass and silvery metal pieces. The brass preserves the original transparent lacquer that protects it from rust, being in general good condition. The microscope mounts three-lens revolving nosepiece and works fine: it can be used to watch samples just as when it was originally made, more than 120 years ago. The microscopes turret bears the engraved manufacturers name, OTTO HIMMLER, and the serial number 12392. This inscription reveals that the instrument was made by the company founded by Karl Otto Himmler (1841-1903), a reputable optical engineer whose instruments achieved great prestige before World War II. Himmler was also widely acknowledged for making the first contact lenses of the history, developed in 1887 to correct August Müllers myopia. This beautiful microscope testifies for Himmler products quality and precision. The device comes in its original case, where we can also find two wooden stands for the lenses (in their respective brass sleeves) and the eyepieces. The case is made of solid mahogany wood and is in great condition, preserving the original silvery metal hand, the lock and the hinges. The base and the top show off an elegant design with dove-chest milled edges. The wood boasts a lovely satin finish that protects it on the outside and enhances the attractive golden-reddish tone typical of mahogany wood. This awesome antique microscope is a real museum piece of stunning quality, precision and beauty. It is surely worthy of being included in the most complete collection.
