Impressive professional E. Leitz Wetlzar microscope in perfect working order and in its original case. It was made in Germany in 1921 and has survived to our days in excellent condition; it can be used to watch samples just like when it was originally manufactured. The microscope mounts a three-lens revolving nosepiece and comes with a set of accessories with four eyepieces and four lenses. The microscopes turret and all the lenses bear the manufacturing companys name engraved in the metal surface: E. Leitz Wetzlar. In the turret we can also see the serial number Nº 185109. This name corresponds to the company created by Ernst Leitz from the Optical Institute, founded in 1849 by Carl Kellner. Leitz entered the firm in 1864 and took control over it four years later, when he changed the name for Optical Institute of Ernst Leitz, which later would be called E. Leitz Wetzlar. The firm is a leading global company in the manufacture of microscopes and optic material, as well as producing the iconic Leica cameras too. In this stunning microscope, the magnificent condition shown by all its pieces is quite remarkable. The brass looks shiny and even with no traces of rust, preserving also the original transparent lacquer. The black-enameled iron foot shows off a glossy and uniform surface that creates a nice contrast with the golden metal. On the other hand, the mahogany case is also in good condition and preserves the original metal handle, the lock and the key. Moreover, the latter are in perfect working order. Stately and with a fascinating history behind, this gorgeous antique microscope is a piece worthy of a museum of science. Measurements: Width: 6.99 in / 17 cm. Height: 14.5 in / 37 cm.
