Lovely antique microscope with a more actual case, made in England by W. Watsons & Sons circa 1920. It is a Kima microscope, designed for students and laboratories. It is in great condition and works fine so it can be used to watch samples. This is a monocular microscope but it comes with an accessory that makes it possible to use it as a binocular model. Both the microscope and the accessory are made of black-enameled iron with golden-brass components. The brass is really well preserved and keeps its original transparent lacquered finish. The microscopes turret bears the following engraved inscription: KIMA W. Watsons & Sons, Ltd. London, together with serial number 04090. This company was founded in London in 1837 and the business was located in 313 High Holborn St. For more than one hundred years they made and sold optic and photographic material, from lanterns to plates and slides. They also produced excellent microscopes just like the one that we can see in these images. The business dissolved in 1948. As stated before, together with the microscope we find a binocular accessory that fits perfectly to the top of the turret. It is signed by por R. & J. Beck Ltd. London, an optic and photographic material company that during the 19th and 20th centuries stood out for their quality products. Both the black-enameled pieces and the brass and silvery-metal component parts are amazingly preserved, showing even and shiny surfaces with scarcely any traces of wear. The microscope comes in a fine-looking black-lacquered wooden case. The case is not from the same period, but later. Complete and efficient, this antique black-enameled microscope is a decorative piece with an outstanding personality. Measurements: Width: 6.6 in / 17 cm. Height: 14.9 in / 38 cm.
