Wonderful antique microscope made in Germany in 1920. The microscope comes in its original solid wooden case and comes with a complete accessory set. It works fine and preserves all its original component parts and pieces, a great micrometric-adjustment system for the samples. The mobile parts move fluid and softly, and it is a real pleasure to use the microscope. It mounts a three-lens revolving nosepiece and is made of black-enameled cast iron, chrome-plated metal and brass. The microscopes turret bears the manufacturers name and serial number engraved in the metal: E. Leitz Wetlzar Nº 186310. The inscription is composed by the name Ernst Leitz and the place-name Wetzlar (a German city). Leitz was a talented engineer that in the late 19th century entered the Optic Institute of Carl Kellner as an employee. Two years later Leitz took over the company and changed its name for his own. Today Leitz is a powerful brand with different subsidiary branches, all optic and photography-related.This stunning microscope shows off an attractive and classic design with horseshoe-shaped foot and several adjusting screws. The case contains two wooden stands with four lenses and four eyepieces each, the lenses protected by their respective metal sleeves. There is also a small wooden box with sliding lid containing material for the preparation of the samples. The case is made of light-colored mahogany wood and is well preserved, with the original lock and key in working order.Impressive working like new, this antique microscope is a museum piece worthy of a professional scientist.Measurements: Width: 6.2 in / 16 cm.
