Gorgeous antique microscope in striking condition, stored in its original solid mahogany wooden case and with a complete accessory set. The microscope comes from England, where it was manufactured in the late 19th century (circa 1880). The instruments beauty is powerfully remarkable and its condition is simply spectacular. The golden brass the different component parts are made of looks shiny and even, and preserved the original transparent lacquer. The microscope mounts a magnifier to focus the light on the sample plates; it is greatly preserved, just like the rest of the component parts. The brass piece that connects the turret and the base bears the following inscription engraved in its surface: Cox & Coombes, Devonport & Plymouth. Cox & Coombes was a scientific instrument manufacturing company located in Devonshire. The company was active during the second half of the 19th century; their instrument were popular amongst the marine and navy forces located in this corner of Devon, and also amongst the research ships. The box where the microscope is stored is also a high-quality and lovely piece. The mahogany wood it is made of remains in magnificent condition and so does the lock. The case preserved the original key. Inside we can see several eyepieces and lenses in their respective brass sleeves, and also a small wooden drawer with white knob that hides a number of samples and some unused glass plates. For its quality, beauty and the complete accessory set that accompanies it, this microscope is worthy of a great museum of scientific instruments. Measurements: Width: 5.9 in / 15 cm.
