Awesome compound microscope with a stylized and simple design, beautiful and in amazing condition. This is a rare and interesting instrument which was made in London in the mid 19th century. In spite of being so old, the microscope is very well preserved and works fine. It can be used to view samples just like when it was originally manufactured. It is made of golden brass and preserves all its original component parts. The screws and mobile parts move fluidly and softly so it is a real pleasure to manipulate them. The golden brass this lovely instrument is made of preserves the original protecting lacquer in great condition. The trace of time has created a fine patina over the surface. The microscope keeps the original oscillating mirror in good condition too. The microscopes base is a flat triangular brass piece. We can see an engraved inscription in it, performed in a lovely cursive lettering: J. Amadio Throgmorton St - London. It stands for Joseph Philip Amadio (1812-1829), a renowned retailer of microscopes, slides and optic material whose workshop was established in London in the mid 19th century. This amazing microscope is a good example of his excellent work: his designs became quite popular for their great value for money. This stunning antique microscope will be the starring piece in a good collection of ancient optic instruments. Measurements: Width: 5.9 in / 15 cm. Height: 12.2 in / 31 cm.
