This antique microscope was made in the beginning of the 20th century (1901), and keeps all the charm and functionality typical of the surveying instruments of those days. Made by the prestigious German brand Ernst Leitz Wetzlar, which supplied optical material, it is in good condition and still works. The microscope is almost complete, just missing one of the clips of the stage and the rear of the mirror. The brand was founded in Wetzlar, Germany, by Karl Kellner in 1849. Some years after, Kellner hired engineer Ernst Leitz, who became his partner. In 1869, Leitz took over the company and renamed it Optical Institute of Leitz. Together with the location, the engineers name became the brands name. In the 20th century, this company developed many innovations in the optical field, and its Canadian factory also designed famous Leica cameras. The microscope is made of glass and the turret shows a scale made of silvery metal. The brass looks shiny, showing only slights signs of worn due to the use and the trace of time. It has a revolving nosepiece with three lenses, each one showing the engraved name of the brand (E. Leitz Wetzlar) and the corresponding number. The instrument comes in its original case, made of solid wood, in very good condition and which preserves all its parts. Both the lock and the delicate key are original and work perfectly. Into the case there are several compartments which hold the brass cases for the lenses and the eyepieces. Inside the cases door there is a paper label with the serial number of the microscope (5786), handwritten. On it we can also read information about the lenses, the date (19/VIII/1901) and a round stamp. The case is in very good condition and the hinges work well. All these details make this piece a unique and very special antique, as beautiful as authentic, which no doubt will stand out with all its value in any collection of scientific antiques from the beginning of the 20th century. Measurements: Base (width): 145 mm. Height: 185 mm.
