Attractive antique travel microscope made in the late 19th century (circa 1890), more than one hundred years old and in working order. The microscope was probably made in Germany or France and has survived to our days in fine condition. It is an easy-to-operate and reliable item and can still be used to watch samples. This singular instrument is composed of a brass turret with a lens, connected to two vertical legs attached to a brass base. This base can be connected to a metal piece embedded in the cover of the wooden storing box. This way, the microscope can be used anywhere and fulfills perfectly its function as a field instrument. The microscopes component parts are made of brass and preserve the ancient transparent lacquered finish that protects and enhance them. The metal looks shiny and even, with no traces of rust and scarcely any signs of wear. The legs that support the microscopes turret are made of matt-finish copper: their sober and discreet look makes a fine contrast with the shiny brass. The turret mounts an original magnifying glass in perfect condition. Between the two legs that support the turret we can see the stage for the samples, directly located under the lens. The box where this delicate microscope is stored is made of solid mahogany wood with a nice dark reddish color. It is very well preserved: the outer finish shows some signs of wear, logical in such an ancient piece and easy to restore. Inside the box is compartmented and mounts wooden pieces designed to stabilize the microscope. There is a compartment which contains a set of unused glass plates to prepare samples. Every lover of ancient microscope will appreciate the originality and beauty of this antique travel microscope. Measurements: Width: 10.2 in / 26 cm. Height: 11.4 in / 29 cm.
