Antique compound microscope made by Simon Waldstein in Wien, Austria in the late 19th century (circa 1890). This beautiful instrument is very well preserved and remains in working order, making it possible to watch samples. It is made of brass and preserves all its original component parts and pieces. The microscope comes in its original mahogany wooden case; inside the cover there is an ancient sticker with the printed manufacturers name: S. WALDSTEIN HOFOPTIKER. This name corresponds to Simon Waldstein (Wien, 1837-1902), a prestigious optic material manufacturer who worked in the family business founded by his father in 5, Komlmarkt. The medal and the crowned shield that we can see in the sticker suggest they were official suppliers of the emperor. The microscope itself is quite a balanced and attractive item with a functional and simple design. The brass the pieces are made of is in very good condition: it shows no signs of rust and keeps the original transparent lacquered finish that protects its surface. The adjustment screws, the lens and the double mirror located under the stage are also original and work fine. As stated before, the microscope comes in its original mahogany case. The case is in good condition and the woods fine color and veneer stand out for their remarkable beauty. Inside it has some fixed wooden pieces that guarantee that the microscope will remain stable. Elegant and charming, this small antique microscope is a charismatic piece worthy to become part of an exclusive collection. Measurements: Width: 2.7 in / 7 cm. Height: 8.6 in / 22 cm.
